Seychelles Police hosts Interpol meeting |25 June 2005

The meeting was held over three days at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Hotel and saw the participation of some 20 officers from the International Criminal Police Organisation from a number of countries in East Africa, including officers from the National Central Bureau (NCB) in Seychelles. It was chaired by Mr Pascal Thani, the chairman of the Interpol Secretariat in Paris, France.

During the meeting, the officers discussed a number of points concerning the legal structure that will govern the future network of African Interpol officers. 

Deliberations also focused on ways to upgrade NCB services, police communication system adopted in networking, the development of a directorate, police cooperation in Africa, access to Interpol's criminal database, coordination of crime investigations at international level, rules of processing and retaining criminal information, among other pertinent issues.

The recommendations made at the meeting will be presented at the forthcoming African Regional Conference in Accra, Ghana between July 13 and 15 where legislation for Interpol networking in Africa will also be adopted.

A delegation from the NCB Seychelles will also attend the conference.

Prior to the Accra conference similar preparatory meetings are also being organised for Interpol officers in other regions in Africa.
