Cycling-Lesperance replaces teammate Labiche for South Africa training |10 August 2005

According to Georges, Labiche, 16 and a secondary five student at Belonie school, has had to stay behind because of his studies.

“He had his tickets in his hands last Thursday and ready to leave on Sunday (June 7) but the Ministry of Education and Youth informed us the same day that he will not be able to sit for his international exams at a later date. I talked to him but it was tough for him to understand. He is a bright young man and understands that his education comes first. I also explained to him that even if his dream is to become a cycling pro one day, he needs to be good academically. He accepted my advice with tears in his eyes,” Georges told Sports Nation on Tuesday.

Georges added that Labiche’s Vélo Club de Mahé’s teammate Bertrand Lesperance was chosen last Friday to accompany St Francis’ Jean-Pierre Low-Hong to train at the new centre in Johannesburg, South Africa.
