Airline shows concern for those with cancer

Mrs Michaud-Payet pins a ribbon on staff member, Mrs Lucy Denousse

They wore pink ribbons to show their concern, in a gesture that was timed to coincide with International Day for Breast Cancer which falls Saturday.

“The staff members have volunteered to bear the ribbons to show their solidarity with the people, their families and friends of those touched by this disease,” the airline’s public relations officer, Josie Michaud-Payet, told Family Life Friday.

She said that the members of staff have noted and welcomed the theme which for this year reads, “Together let us make breast cancer history,” noting that many people in the population have been sensitised about the breast cancer.

A number of other organisations are also hosting activities to mark the Day, notable among them being the Seychelles Association of Professional Women (Sawop) who are Saturday organising a talk to increase awareness about the condition.

“There will be a presentation by a medical doctor on the situation of breast cancer in Seychelles,” Sawop executive member Aude Labaleine said of the talk that will take place from 10.00 a.m. at the National Institute of Education auditorium.

She said an affected person will also give a testimony and that Sawop will present a cheque to the Department of Health for use in cancer research and treatment.
