Liberia; Chile-President Michel salutes newly elected female presidents |18 January 2006

President Michel's message to the Liberian President, H.E. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, reads:
"It gives me great pleasure to extend to you on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Seychelles, our warmest and most sincere congratulations, following your election as President of the Republic of Liberia.

"The historical assumption to this high office by a woman is a symbol of pride to Africa in general and to us in Seychelles. It is certainly a testimony of hope for the reconstruction of your country and for the betterment of its people.

"As the renaissance of peace and democracy descends on Liberia, I am confident that under your leadership, your country will be able to consolidate its place as an important and reliable partner in the international arena.

"It is my wish that the ties of friendship and cooperation existing between our two countries will be developed during your tenure of office, and I look forward to working closely with you to that end."

In a separate message to the newly elected President of Chile, H.E. Michelle Bachelet, President Michel writes:
"Your election as President of Chile affords me the opportunity to convey to you, on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Seychelles, our warmest and most sincere congratulations.

"I am convinced that through our common effort, the friendly relations between our two countries will be further strengthened for the prosperity and progress of our two countries."

Mr Michel has also wished both presidents success during their terms of office.
