VCS Training Centre gets validated

VCS Training Centre administrator, Daniel Adrienne, examines the Certificate issued by the Qualifications Control Authority

A letter from the Special Advisor at the Ministry confirmed this week that the Centre’s application has been approved. The confirmation is proof that VCS Training Centre’s operating standard is up at par with guidelines established by the Seychelles Qualifications Control Authority set up recently to promote quality and high standard of education and training through a system of accreditation, validation and quality assurance.

Late last year, a law endorsed by the National Assembly, made it compulsory for training in all educational institutions to be conducted in a reasonably conducive and safe environment. The Authority also works in collaboration with training institutions and industries to ensure that training programmes being provided meet the qualifications criteria as expected of service providers. A framework has also been established to recognize both national and foreign qualifications. The Seychelles Qualifications Control Authority is administered by a Board of six to thirteen members, appointed by the Minister for Education.

Besides monitoring course content, on-site visits by officers from the Fire Safety department and the Environmental Health Authority are effected periodically to guarantee safety and hygiene regulations are being observed at all times. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in an institution having its license revoked.

VCS Training Centre’s instructor, Daniel Adrienne said that "providing high quality training has always been our priority, and this new certification gives us a competitive advantage. We are constantly on the move and believe in keeping ourselves vital and ahead of the pack."

There is an ever-increasing demand for skilled IT professionals in Seychelles and according to Mr Adrienne, training can also be used to good effect to raise morale, boost productivity, increase the rate of change or prepare employees for new challenges.

VCS Training Centre covers all the common Microsoft Office components as well as technical courses for today's demanding technical certifications. Courses on the list for this year include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access. Technical courses such as A+ Hardware, A+ OS Technologies and Network+ remain. Due to continuous demand, the Training Centre is introducing Macromedia Flash MX Essentials and Microsoft FrontPage, both offering practical approach to web creation and development. Specialized courses for Windows Server, Microsoft Exchange, Linux, Cisco and Autocad are also on the calendar for 2006.

Certifications are critical to the industry as a means of validating a person’s IT competence. VCS is the only IT Training Centre in Seychelles offering internationally recognized certification in both Microsoft desktop applications and technical subjects.

Mr Adrienne, who is the only Microsoft Office Specialist Master Instructor in the Seychelles, says: "As the leading IT Training Centre locally, we have a commitment to offer best-of-class training services because we understand the need of our course participants. Courses and course content are updated regularly, to ensure students reap maximum benefit from the ever-growing world of IT."
Training is conducted in a technically advanced training room equipped with state of the art hardware and specialised training software. This software allows the instructor to monitor and control every student’s computer activity from the convenience of his own PC. To focus student’s attention, he can lock their keyboard and mouse during lectures or screen demonstrations.

VCS has also recently invested heavily in its Training Centre with the aim of providing a more pleasant learning environment to match the quality training it offers. The company has spent over one hundred and fifty thousand rupees on a major restoration of its training room. New furniture and new TFT flat screen monitors have been installed to replace outdated equipment.

The newly-accredited VCS Training Centre is looking forward to welcoming students in their modern-looking class. With an extensive business experience and vast computer knowledge, 2006 promises to be lucrative year for the company.
