President ends Qatar visit |16 February 2006

On the last day of his visit yesterday, President Michel was taken on a tour of the Ras Laffan Industrial City.

The Ras Laffan development is one of the key initiatives of the Qatari Government in relation to its long term energy export strategy.

Qatar has vast natural resources which include proven recoverable oil reserves of 15.2 billion barrels of oil as well as one of the largest offshore natural gas fields in the world.

The Qatari economy has taken off in recent years thanks to strong performances in the production of Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) from these fields.

Qatar is also looking to become a leader in the production of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG).

During his three-day visit, President Michel had held fruitful discussions with his Qatari counterparts on subjects of mutual interest including investments, education and cooperation in the energy sector.
