After consultations with Government-UCPS returns to old prices |03 April 2006

This follows consultations with the Government and is in line with the national efforts to maintain prices as much as possible.

UCPS had raised by an average 5% the prices of five types of construction blocks and crusher dust.

The prices of all other UCPS products had not changed.

A UCPS spokesman said the costs of importing quarrying materials such as explosives, machinery depreciation and spares were the main reasons why the company had to raise the prices of blocks and crusher dust.

The price of crusher dust is back at R170 a tonne. A 6” hollow block sells at R6.40, 8” hollow block at R8.15, 4” solid block at R6.15, 6” solid block at R9.05 and 8” solid block at R11.70.

The spokesman added that the current prices of UCPS aggregate products “are cheaper than in 1992”.

An official in the President’s Office, State House, has expressed Government’s appreciation following UCPS’ decision to return to the old prices of February 2006.

The official described the consultations between government and UCPS as exemplary partnership between the public and private sectors.

“The result of the consultations on the prices of construction products is beneficial to the public and is a contribution to the national cost-control effort,” added the official.
