Political leaders send Labour Day messages |02 May 2006
In his message, Mr Ramkalawan notes that Workers Day reminds us all that it is through work that we make our most important contribution to our families, our communities and our nation. "But work also gives us dignity as human beings for through it we put the abilities and talents that God has given us to use for our own benefit and for the benefit of others. It is my hope that we will be able to do more to ensure that no one will be left wanting because of lack of employment," says Mr Ramkalawan in his message.
Mr Ramkalawan has also expressed a special appreciation for all those whose work calls for devotion to the welfare of others.
"Often the material benefits that they receive will never fully compensate for the effort and devotion that they bring to their duties, and many also do this without gain for themselves at all," Mr Ramkalawan's message says.
On his part, Mr Chow notes that May Day in Seychelles was make a public holiday before our independence "as a result of the valiant efforts of young politicians of the day".
Mr Chow says it is also fitting, as a nation built on the values of Christianity, to remind ourselves that May 1 is also St Joseph’s Day, perhaps the most famous workers of all time.
"On behalf of the Democratic Party I wish all the working peoples of Seychelles a peaceful and happy celebration," says Mr Chow in his message.
