Karting championship, round four-Rene, Payet and Ebrahim, round four winners |18 May 2006

Despite Sunday May 14 being a very hot day, a total of 21 drivers turned up at Champions Park Raceway, Roche Caïman for the occasion as the series witnessed some of the most exciting races of the season yet.

Suspense reigned from start to finish in all three categories.
In the Formula A division, Dave Rene benefited from daughter Liza Rene’s unfortunate episode. Liza’s engine blew up because of over-heating and after getting another one installed, she sneaked from third to second place ahead of John Simon despite running on a flat tyre in the final laps.

Fourth place went to Alistair Maiden who wore a new snorkel helmet.
Whilst Roland Delcy could not finish the race due to an engine problem with his kart, Peter Fred had to watch from the sidelines as he had a chain problem.

With the fifth round to be raced on May 28, Lisa and Dave are tied for first place in the Formula A category after having both accumulated 80 points.

Third spot is being occupied by John Simon with a 20-point deficit on the joint-leaders, Delcy is fourth (30 points) and is being followed in fifth place by Maiden (13 points).

In the Junior class, all the regular front-runners took to the grid and it was Hendrick Payet who came out victorious.

Absent for a while, Payet made a positive comeback, winning in front of a very determined Stephan Simon and third place finisher Dimitri Maiden.

Favourite and class leader Ian Confiance (70 points) had an off day, managing only a fifth position.

Marc Delcy, who dropped out of Sunday’s race after his kart encountered a mechanical problem, has 65 points and Simon boast 59 points. Sunday’s round four winner Payet is fifth with 34 points.

In the six-driver suspense-filled Cadet race, three drivers - Zayn Ebrahim, Wilven Philoé and Andrew Gabriel – battled each other for top spot.

In the end, Ebrahim won by the slightest of margins. Gabriel took second position only after Philoé had been hit with a 10-second penalty for a technical infringement.

The Cadet category leader is Ebrahim with 70 points, second is Gabriel with 67 points and third Philoé with 51 points.
