Presidential Election 2006-Candidates invited to collect forms |09 June 2006
Forms can be collected from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and from 1.30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
It is to be recalled that the 2006 Presidential Election will take place on July 28, 29 & 30.
Thursday July 6 is the date set for Nomination Day – the day when all political parties/independent candidates wishing to take part in the election will have to submit the names of their Presidential candidate and running mate.
According to a communiqué from Mr Gappy, nomination for Presidential candidates will be received by the Chief Electoral Officer between the hours of 1.30 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. in Office of the Electoral Commissioner, Election Headquarters, National Library, Victoria.
Among the documents the candidates have to produce are their respective Nomination Paper supported by a Nomination Form; a list of 500 supporters; two passport size colour photographs and its high resolution digital photograph in colour; the candidates' party symbol and its high resolution digital symbol in colour, or in the case of an independent candidate the colour adopted by that candidate, and its high resolution digital symbol in colour; a certificate from an officer of the respective political party authorising a candidate to act on behalf of that party; a certificate from the Electoral Commissioner to the effect that the candidates have satisfied the requirements to provide security for R15,000; and forms of Designation and Consent of the Vice-President.
The Electoral Commissioner has said that he will be available at the Office of the Electoral Commissioner, Election Headquarters, National Library, Victoria on Wednesday July 5, 2006 between 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon to receive the required R15,000 "Security" and to issue certificate to the candidates accordingly.
Mr. Anaclet Tirant is the Chief Registration Officer and Miss Jenny Adrienne has been appointed Chief Electoral Officer for the forthcoming election.
