Doping tests in sports-Eight tests return positive |10 June 2006
The Seychelles National Anti-Doping Commission (SNADC) made the announcement yesterday after being contacted by Sports Nation.
Although, it has made known the fact that Seychellois sportsmen are doing drugs, the SNADC has refused to reveal the names of the athletes who have tested positive.
According to the World Anti-Doping Agency’s code (Wada), it is the sporting federations’ role to announce the results and reveal the names of their athletes who have tested positive.
Contacted by telephone yesterday, Seychelles Basketball Federation’s chairman Paul Denis told Sports Nation that before revealing any names, the federation will have to wait until the end of the 20-day period observed before the announcement of results.
Doping tests in basketball started on Saturday May 27, 2006.
As for football, the first sport to have had its players tested, its chairman could not be contacted as he is in Germany where he attended the Fifa Congress and watched yesterday’s opening match of the Fifa World Cup.
It is to note that since the SNADC made its first doping tests on Friday May 12, 2006, 40 tests have been carried out on sportsmen and women.
