James A. Michel elected President of Seychelles |29 July 2006
His closest rival, Wavel Ramkalawan of the Seychelles National Party (SNP) polled 45.71 percent of the votes.
Independent candidate Philippe Boullé scored less than one percent. He got 0.56 percent.
A total of 56,787 voters cast their ballots in the Presidential election which took place from July 28 to 30 with voting on the three main islands of Mahe, Praslin and La Digue voting on Sunday.
The turnout was 88.6 percent out a total of eligible voters of 64,026.
The following is a breakdown of the results which were announced at 1.15 a.m. today.
Total valid votes cast was 56,059.
Mr James, Alix Michel of the Seychelles People’s Progressive Front (SPPF) received 30,119 valid votes.
Mr Philippe, Joseph Boullé – Independent Candidate - received 314 valid votes.
Mr Wavel, John, Charles, Ramkalawan of the Seychelles National Party (SNP) received 25,626 valid votes.
Mr Michel has scored 53.73% of valid votes cast.
Mr Boullé has scored 0.56% of valid votes cast.
Mr Ramkalawan has scored 45.71% of valid votes cast.
