Football: Women’s League-Olympia Coast seal league with 100% win record

OLYMPIA COAST … 2006 Women’s champions

The match kicked off to a low pace with Olympia Coast, already crowned League champions, pinning outgoing champions United Sisters in defence. In the fourth minute, following a defensive error by United Sisters, Natacha Bibi saw her close range effort push into corner by United Sisters goalie. In the ninth minute, Bibi once again beat the United Sisters offside trap and in a one-on-one situation, she shot directly at the goalkeeper.

United Sisters, however, did create some scoring opportunities and in the 10th minute in a counter-attack, Elsie Ernesta was faster than the entire Olympia Coast defence and she gave her team the lead, netting the first goal against Olympia Coast this season.

Olympia Coast’s reply came in the 14th minute when they were awarded a free-kick just outside the penalty area following a foul, but Bibi rifled her shot way over the bar. The match then turned into a non-offensive one with both teams battling for possession in midfield. The 1-0 score remained until half-time.

In the second half, Olympia Coast adopted a more offensive approach and they were awarded two corners in the first three minutes. Their effort was rewarded in the 35th minute when Ramona Jules spectacularly dribbled past four defenders before beating the goalkeeper to level the game.

In the 43 rd minute, Olympia Coast should have taken the lead when Natacha Bibi did well to beat the United Sisters defence but she failed to put the ball in an empty goal. In the 50th minute, Ramona Jules played a perfect ball at the far post for Natacha Bibi who failed to tap the ball in.

Jules turned from scorer to provider in the 47th minute. She played a nice pass to Bibi who redeemed herself with a perfect control to go past a defender before beating United Sisters’ goalkeeper to give Olympia Coast the lead.

Minutes later, Olympia Coast doubled their lead after United Sisters’ Linda Jupiter’s defensive error presented Natacha Bibi with a good opportunity and the latter made no mistake by scoring her second goal of the game.

Without any substitute, United Sisters ended the match with 10 players after losing striker Corine Boniface through injury.

Olympia Coast scored a fourth goal in injury time through defender Annette Henriette to end the match on a 4-1 score.

Following Saturday’s win, Olympia Coast ended the 2006 Women’s League with 18 points, scoring 22 goals and conceding only one.

“We are very happy and I would like to congratulate all my players for this achievement.

They were great throughout the championship,” coach Gerard Gamatis told Sports Nation.

“We also wanted to get a second record for not conceding any goal in the league, but we could not. We are happy still,” added Gamatis.
