New Korean ambassador accredited

Talking to the press after his accreditation visit, Mr Yum noted that the bilateral understanding between Seychelles and the Republic of Korea is in an “excellent” state.

With regard to economic ties between the two countries, Ambassador Yum said that the two parties will be looking to strengthen cooperation in the tourism industry in the coming years, as well as in the processing industry.

He also said that during his tenure here, he is going to see to the expansion of avenues through which the two countries can initiate other exchanges, namely in the cultural department.

Following his accreditation yesterday, Mr Yum paid a courtesy call on Vice-President Joseph Belmont.

He will also meet with government ministers and other personalities before leaving for Nairobi, Kenya, where he is to be based.

Mr Yum, who is the seventh ambassador of the Republic of Korea to be accredited to Seychelles, replaces Mr Lee Suk-jo, who served as ambassador since November 2002.

Seychelles and the Republic of Korea first established formal diplomatic relations on June 29, 1976.
