The materials, comprising booklets, posters and calendars, feature a collection of ozone protection related work that school children themselves have produced over the past years.

Each year school children participate in various types of activities aimed at sensitizing them on the need to protect the ozone Layer. These include marches, poster competitions, radio programmes and school talk presentations organized on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue.

Work based on these activities has been compiled to produce these educational materials which the Ministry of Environment & Natural Resources has handed over to the Ministry of Education for dissemination in schools.

The materials were handed over to the principal secretary for Education, Jeanne Simeon, by her Environment counterpart, Dr Rolph Payet, in a short ceremony held recently.

The ceremony was timed to coincide with the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer (World Ozone Day) celebrated on September 16. This year's theme for the day was “Protect the Ozone Layer: Save life on Earth, Use Ozone Friendly Technology and Products”.

Handing over the materials to Mrs Simeon, Dr Payet said that the booklet is testimony to the hard work that school children have done towards the protection of the ozone layer.

On her part, Mrs Simeon said that the booklet is “a positive initiative to value our children’s commitment and enthusiasm” towards the protection of the ozone layer.

Noting that education is the key to a sustainable future, she said that Seychelles is committed towards providing this education.

Also present at the ceremony were school children and officers from the Ozone Unit of the Ministry of Environment & Natural Resources.
