Police force restructured |08 January 2007
Five former superintendents of police were promoted to become chief superintendents, six assistant superintendents raised to be superintendents and a similar number of inspectors promoted to become assistant superintendents.
A number of senior officers retained their ranks but were assigned new responsibilities, in a line up that saw Chief Superintendent Ernest Quatre taking charge of the executive arm of the force and performing the duties of personal assistant to Police Commissioner Gerard Waye-Hive.
Chief Superintendent Paul Bedier is now in charge of operations, including the criminal investigations unit (CIU).
Chief Superintendent Eugene Poris is in charge of the national operation command, while Chief Superintendent Jerris Beauchamp now heads the forces’ human resource development (HRD), and Chief Superintendent Guy Roucou the special support unit.
Upon their promotion to the rank of superintendent, the six were attached to, or retained in the following units: Superintendent Godfra Hermitte, the Seychelles Police Academy; Superintendent Reginald Elizabeth, the scientific support bureau (SSB); Superintendent Benjamin Zab, the professional standards and internal affairs; and Superintendent James Matombe, the special support unit.
While Superintendent Eugene Louise is on overseas training, Superintendent Jean Andre Morel is now in charge of the fire brigade as Superintendent Eddy Payet takes charge of the new major emergency planning unit.
Other allocations and/or promotions are those of Superintendent Philip Cecile (CIU), Superintendent Ronnie Mousbe who is the central regional officer and deputy to the chief superintendent for operational command, Superintendent Marjorie Bastienne (Command Centre), Superintendent Maxime Figaro (HRD), Asst. Superintendent Sabry Khan (Traffic), Asst.
Superintendent Philip Simeon (Adams), Asst. Superintendent Ted Barbe (Police Academy) Asst. Superintendent Ericson Charles (CIU), Asst. Superintendent Yves Leon (SSB), Asst. Superintendent France Rose, (Fire Brigade), Asst. Superintendent Gerard Freminot (Special Branch).
Further, newly promoted Asst. Superintendent Agnes Mondon and Asst. Superintendent Abraham Essack are now regional commanders awaiting to be assigned zones of operations, and Asst. Superintendent Winsley Cedras will be with the CIU.
Asst. Superintendent Ned Wirtz will deputise in the executive, and also be deputy to the personal assistant to the commissioner, while Asst. Superintendent Joyceline Lajoie will be the deputy in the command centre.
Speaking after the officers received their promotion badges at the police academy, Commissioner Waye-Hive said that the officers’ attainment of the new commander ranks makes the force ready for the launching of its revitalization programme which will include a change in the policing system.
