Golf-Hevens Andrade smiles with Airtel

From left to right: third place finisher Laporte, club captain Moncherry, winner Andrade, Ms Parmantier, Airtel CEO Sud and runner-up ShahThis annual fixture is rapidly becoming a much looked forward to event for golf enthusiasts and the sporadic wet conditions on the day were hardly a deterrent.

As expected, each one had a solid go at bagging one of the attractive prizes and as it often happens in competitive golf, trying too hard took its toll on most scores as early as the end of the front nine holes, with only four contestants managing to score 36 points or better for the day.

Hevens Andrade, in spite of a handicap plummeting faster than a rock to the surface of Jupiter, seemed unfazed by the hype and humidity.  He complemented his front nine score of 20 points with an eye-popping 24 points on the back nine for an incredible and practically unassailable biggie of 44.  Needless to say, he did not feel threatened at all as he relaxed at the clubhouse, ensured of first place by a long par 5.

The rest of the field had the much simplified task of contending for second or third place or one of the many subsidiary prizes; or worse still, the lucky dip if nothing else worked.

Sunil Shah turned out to be the best of the rest, doing well with a consistent double 19 points for a total of 38 points, thus securing second place with a cool margin of 2 points over his nearest rival, Catney Laporte. The latter managed a fighting level par 36 points, beating Johnny Savy on the same score on the count-back to collect third prize.

The prize for the best score on the front nine holes went to Godfrey Andrade and Harold Prea won the best back nine prize. Andrew Hoareau had the longest drive while young Gerard Morin was sinfully close to the flagstick on the 4th hole for the nearest to pin prize.

The prizes were awarded by Airtel chief executive officer (CEO) Vinod Sud and marketing executive Beverly Parmantier at a lively function which was followed by sponsored snacks and refreshments.

Mr Sud appreciated the keen interest of members in the event and assured them of Airtel’s continued support of competitive golf in Seychelles.

Club captain Peter Moncherry expressed his gratitude to the sponsors for making the event a grand success.
