Marlene Ladouce’s debut album-A blessing from God? |19 May 2007
Babylonian king Belshazzar (Baltasar) saw the writing on the wall and called on Prophet Daniel to decipher its meaning.
Almost the same miracle happened before Praslinois lady Marlene Ladouce’s eyes, but unlike in the case of Belshazzar, the writing did not spell doom and disaster. Instead, it brought something very positive to her life and according to her, it made her discover that she possesses a hidden talent – singing.
Marlene re-counted how out of the blue, one day while taking care of a sick relative, she noticed something in the ceiling of her house. Upon closer inspection, she said that three words became legible and they were: “little white dove”.
“There were also other words that I could not decipher, but suddenly I started singing those words. As I continued singing, additional lyrics just came to my mind and it flowed well into a complete song.”
She said that lyrics of many other songs just came to her mind and that God called on her to produce a whole album from the inspiration she had received.
With the release of the album, Marlene said that she hopes to touch the lives of young people and help them to become closer to God.
“The youths here should realise that now is the time to turn to God and live their lives rightfully. There are many bad things out there that should be avoided. AIDS is one of them,” she said.
To achieve her dream, Marlene turned to the band Island Vibrations for musical assistance and it was in the band’s studio based at Amitié that all the musical arrangements were made.
The 11 songs, which are of the reggae, sega and ballad genres, have all been written by Marlene, except for track number 7 – Move Tantasyon – which is was written by Bertin Télémaque.
Some of the song titles on the CD are ‘Sweet Saviour’, ‘Holy Angel’, Sa Divan, Mon’n Pare (the title track) and ‘Ticket to Heaven’.
Marlene, a debutante on the music scene, said that it only took her four months to work on producing the CD. Her daughters – Sheila and Brigitte Victor – have added backing vocals.
“I want people to know that even if this album has a very spiritual feel, it is very lively and they can even dance to most of the tracks,” added Marlene, who noted that she will organise a show to officially launch her album.
