Basketball: National League-Camille shoots down the Razors |02 June 2007

When Jean-Paul Camille left SMB Razorbacks for Baya, he brought with him his scoring prowess, leaving his former side lacking in depth in the shooting department and this has been their biggest headache with three defeats in four games since the start of the Men’s division 1A league.

Firing on all cylinders to prove to SMB Razorbacks that they were wrong to let him go, Camille scored a game-high 28 points, including two 3-pointers, in just three quarters for Baya whose five starters – Camille (28 points), Robert Léon (19), Hendricks Denis (4), Steve Denis (6) and skipper Dave Roseline (9) – combined for 66 points.

Leading SMB Razorbacks by just one point – 19-18 – at the end of the first quarter, Baya distanced themselves from their opponents with scores of 22-11 and 37-10 in the second and third quarters to sew up the match even though there was still a fourth quarter to be played.

Trailing by half of Baya’s total– 39-78 – SMB Razorbacks knew the game was over and the least they could do was try to cut the deficit and they were given a little help by coach Michel Malbrook’s players who took their foot off the accelerator. The Razors netted 26 points and conceded 16 but still lost the match 65-94.

Although they scored six treys, two more than Baya, SMB Razorbacks, who had only three starters scoring, were outscored by coach Malbrook’s team – 66-41 for the starters and 29-24 for the bench.

Also the 37 third quarter points for Baya, who have enjoyed a very good start to the season with a big-margin victory in their first outing, are the highest any team have scored in any one quarter this far in the season.

Meanwhile, in two other matches played earlier this week, RC Dynamics beat Beau Vallon Heat 66-57 (Men’s division 1B) and AAP Brothers defeated LMS Youth 66-28 (Men’s division 2).
