Athletics: Southern Region Meet-Leveau-Agricole wins discus gold |06 June 2007

Botswana, Lindy Leveau-Agricole triumphed in the discus event of the recent Southern Region Meet held in Namibia. Her winning distance was 42.04 metres in a field of six athletes.

Leveau-Agricole told Sports Nation she could not participate in the javelin throw on the second day of the competition due to a technical error.

“The javelin event was to start at 2.30 p.m. on the original schedule and when I arrived at the stadium at 1 p.m. to start warming up, the competitors were about to make their final attempts. We were not told of any changes in the order of events. I was also disappointed as I also had to perform the discus throw in the hammer sector,” said Leveau-Agricole.

Javelin silver medalist at last year’s African Athletics Championships in Mauritius, South African Sunette Viljoen won the javelin gold medal of Southern Region Meet.

Meanwhile, young male high jumper Hazeron Etienne cleared the bar at 2 metres for fifth place out of six participants.
