Intelvision announces $2m infrastructure upgrade |12 July 2007

According to the company, this upgrade will have significant importance to Cable TV services as it will provide the flexibility of increasing the content and channels to its existing bouquets.

“Successful negotiations with new channel providers are in progression and will materialize shortly. Subscribers may experience some minimal disruption in the service whilst this service is been carried out and we apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause,” the company said.

Furthermore a new range of PVR & Dual View Decoders will be available for sale or exchange to all of Intelvision’s Cable TV subscribers within the next four months, the company added.

A PVR Decoder is a Personal Video Recorder and decoder in one.  Some of the exciting features of the PVR decoder is that you can record up to 80 hours of TV programming, pause live TV, watch one channel and record a second channel at the same time.

A Dual View Decoder, which is essentially two decoders in one, allows you to view two separate channels on two separate televisions simultaneously. All the features you currently use, such as Parental Guidance, the use of the button to see information on the current program and what is on next across the spectrum of channels will also be available on each of the two television sets.

To accommodate the upgraded infrastructure and in line with its policy of improving the service levels to its Cable TV subscribers, Intelvision will be replacing all existing decoders with newly improved ones within the next few months at no extra cost to existing subscribers.  Subscribers wishing to upgrade to a PVR or Dual View Decoder can do so by only paying the difference in price between a standard and PVR or Dual View Decoder.

Existing subscribers will be informed within the next few months on the procedure to follow to replace their existing decoders or to exchange their existing ones for PVR or Dual View Decoders.

According to the company, the infrastructure for Intelvision telephony and internet services will also be upgraded during this progression.

“The data and voice international and local earth station infrastructure is currently being upgraded which will further improve the stability and increase the overall quality and capacity of the link. We are also tying up with more established international voice carriers to further improve the quality of our international voice services,” the company said.
