Sports Awards of the Year 2007-Selection committee receives names of nominees |22 December 2007

Weightlifter Thélermont, who reclaimed the Sportslady of the Year title she lost to athlete Lindy Leveau-Agricole in 2005, is the only Seychellois female athlete to have won the crown three times and her wins came at two-year intervals – in 2002, 2004 and 2006.

As for Cupidon, he is the first badminton player to lift the coveted floating cup, succeeding five-time winner Allan Julie as Sportsman of the Year during the 2006 crowning ceremony.

If Thélermont and Cupidon are in the running to succeed themselves as winners, swimmers Shrone Austin and Adrian Nanty, the outgoing Young Female and Male Athletes of the Year, will know their successors on the night of January 25, 2007. This is because they have not been chosen as the best by the Seychelles Swimming Association as they have already celebrated their 18th birthday.

As all sports federations and associations except for squash, who did not organise any competition this year, have handed in the names of their best athletes in the different categories, the selection committee will meet for the first time on Thursday December 27 to start short-listing the best out of the best.

The following are the names of the best athletes chosen by the different sporting federations and associations:
