Following SMB’s dissolution-Government seeks strategic partner for Hatcheries and Feeds Ltd |01 March 2008
As part of its privatisation programme of the Seychelles Marketing Board (SMB), the government is inviting applications from individuals and companies both local and international as strategic partner for the company.
The chairperson of the Board running the Seychelles Hatcheries and Feeds Ltd, Bernard Moulinie, said this week that the new partner being sought will have to be involved in both activities of the company which is the production of bio chicks (young broilers) for local producers of meat and for the production of eggs (young layers), as well as provide all the animal feeds the country requires.
Mr Moulinie pointed out that the aim of the company remains the production of good quality animal feed and equally good quality bio chicks to meet local demand.
It is to be noted that at present the company produces around 1000 tonnes of animal feed per month, 1 million young broilers per year and 100,000 young layers.
Mr Moulinie noted though that the hatchery plans to increase its production in the future as it is an industry which is well developed here and full of potential.
He pointed out that for the time being the newly formed Seychelles Trading Company (STC) is giving his company its support in providing for all the raw material it requires for its production.
As for the workers, around eighty of them altogether, he said that they have all retained their jobs as they are all “essential” to the company.
Mr Moulinie revealed that the operations of the company remain unchanged at least for the next six months until a strategic partner comes in.
