Role of ambassadors-at-large |05 April 2008

This country has ambassadors who are working hard, but normally they do not intermingle as much and as often with representatives of the business communities as do ambassadors-at-large, who in fact complement the work of the other ambassadors.

That is why the government on Tuesday named Chinnakanan Sivasankaran for the new post.
Mr Sivasankaran is a well-known and successful personality in the telecommunications sector, who has also invested in Seychelles and therefore fits that role well.

It is expected that government will name other such ambassadors in due course.
When explaining this recently, the Leader of Government Business in the National Assembly, Marie-Louise Potter, said the role of such ambassadors is becoming more and more indispensable in view of the rapid evolution that is taking place in the new international order, especially in the ever increasing business transactions around the world.
