World Book and Copyright Day-Library to host educational activities |19 April 2008
The activities on Mahe – in the children’s section of the library all week – include research work and presentation, a quiz and best reader contest, word games, a sale of books and film shows.
On Praslin the activities will include a book donation ceremony on April 29. The following day there will be various educational activities such as Scrabble, crosswords and bookmark competitions, as well as storytelling. Baie Ste Anne community centre will be the venue on both days.
On La Digue activities will take place on May 3 at the island’s community centre and will include a talk by the librarian, a quiz and storytelling. A visit to the pier has also been planned, after which the students will be asked to compile their findings.
Besides activities for children, there will be reading at the Plaisance and Pointe Larue homes for the elderly on April 23.
The National Library is also waiving fines on all overdue books returned during next week.
The organisers are urging as many children, as well as parents, as possible to take part.
