International School’s IGCSE results up again

The recently published Year 11 (S5) results at IGCSE level show that 40% of all grades Highest performing IGCSE student Genevieve Lloydwere at A* or A level, with 83% of all grades at higher pass level (A*-C).

The percentage of students from this mixed-ability group who gained five higher passes or more was just under 90%, almost double the UK average.

Also the percentage of students (70%) including both English and maths (A* to C) is almost twice the UK average.

The highest performing student was Genevieve Lloyd, who gained nine A* grades from 12 higher passes to her credit.

Most of the students completing Year 11 now go on to the school’s A-level programme.

A-level results dropped against last year, with students gaining an average points tally of 231. A grade A at full A-level is worth 120 points, a grade B 100 points and so on.

Highest-scoring performer was Mallika Goel, who gained AAAB grades for 460 points.

Director of the two International Schools Martin Kennedy expressed satisfaction with the IGCSE results, pointing out that the students outperformed the school’s expectation. A-level results were in line with the school’s forecast.

“Despite having a number of exceptional students completing A-levels, we also had a small cohort of students who gained modest results by our usual standards mainly because they failed to work hard enough,” he said.

Mallika Goel, highest-scoring performer at A-level“We have a strong incoming second A-level year group and the new first year group has achieved exceptionally well at IGCSE level, as we have seen, so we expect 2009 and 2010 A-level results to revert to our usual level of achievement.”

Mr Kennedy added that, as far as he is aware ahead of the start of the new academic year, all students who applied to universities in Europe have gained admission and will be starting later this month.
