Crown Motors to introduce low-priced Chery cars to Seychelles |12 December 2008

Chery cars have been causing a sensation worldwide as they are positioned as the most affordable high-quality mini cars.

The parent company, Chery Automobile Co Ltd founded in 1997, is one of the largest independent Chinese carmakers. It produced 650,000 cars in 2007, ranging from passenger cars to sport utility vehicles (SUVs).

The high-quality features of the “Chinese mini cars” have catapulted the company into the world’s spotlight, and it is now on its way to creating a world-famous brand through its innovations.

Chery has been the leading exporter of cars in China for the past five years, sending 50,000 of them to over 60 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. It has also set up assembly lines in Russia, Ukraine, Indonesia, Egypt, Uruguay, Turkey, Iran and Sri Lanka.

“Now that vehicle prices have risen significantly as a result of the changing rate of exchange between the rupee and other currencies, we are proud to be able to offer the people of Seychelles a world-class quality product at the lowest price in the land,” said Hervé Chang-Yunn, marketing manager of Crown Motors.

“The Chery cars have been highly acclaimed in every country where they have been launched. Their high-class engineering, coupled with their competitive prices, rival those of some major international car brands.”

Chery cars are based on cutting-edge technologies in the automobile industry and are modern, safe and reliable. They undergo stringent quality tests and ISO certifications before being launched on the international market.

For the key components and parts, Chery has formed partnerships with some world-renowned parts suppliers such as Bosch, Siemens VDO, Delphi, Mobil, Tower Automotive, Johnson Controls, Autoliv, GKN, Valeo, Faurecia, Hella, Magnetti Marelli, Lear Corporation, Arvin Meritor and PPG Paints.

The Chery cars that will be available in Seychelles early in 2009 will include the QQ3 five-door hatchback (1100cc), the J1 five-door hatchback (1300cc) and the Tiggo SUV (1600cc).

All models will be available with features such as air-conditioning, antilock braking system (ABS), audio system with a mini MP3 player port, central locking, alarm system, electrically-powered windows and mirrors, and alloy wheels.

“At a starting price of US $6,300 (CIF), the entry-level Chery QQ3 is expected to appeal to young professionals, car rental companies, tour operators, corporations and anyone wanting to drive an eye-catching and fashionable small car at a price they can afford,” said Mr Chang-Yunn.

Crown Motors has confirmed its commitment to fully support the Chery brand and has already invested in trained personnel, equipment, tools and spare parts. In addition, the vehicles will come with a two-year or 60,000km warranty on manufacturing defects.

The first consignment of Chery cars is expected to arrive in Seychelles by February 2009.
