Seychelle Polytechnic Graduation 2008-2008 graduates register excellent examination results |09 March 2009
Acting director Joan Amade made the remark while speaking at the school’s graduation ceremony last Friday at the institution’s auditorium at Anse Royale.
Last year, 154 students successfully completed their studies in eight courses from two learning programmes.
Friday’s ceremony was attended by Vice-President Joseph Belmont, leader of the opposition Wavel Ramkalawan, cabinet ministers, parents and lecturers.
Students from the visual arts programme recorded a 100% pass for the Cambridge Advanced level exam while students from the secretarial courses recorded a significant high level of first class passes in City and Guilds exams. As for the business studies students, they produced good results in the AAT exams at certificate, advanced certificate and diploma level.
Ms Amade said as the school acknowledges the achievements of its students, emphasis is being placed on the development of courses and the provision of the necessary environment to enhance the creativity of the students.
She explained that in line with the growing interest of students for work opportunities in business, finance and accounting sectors, the Business and Secretarial Studies programme area has increased its quota for 2009 by 22%.
“As we move on, our main challenge is to maintain the same high standard which has been the pride of this institution over the past 25 years,” she added.
In view of the changes taking place in the world economy, Ms Amade said it is important that all individuals who have the wellbeing of the young people at heart to team up with the training institutions towards a common goal which is to ensure that they develop their potential to the full.
“This perception is highlighted in this year’s national theme, Koste Seselwa, and this is the way forward,” she added.
In a foreword message, Education Minister Bernard Shamlaye congratulated the students and all those who contributed towards their education programmes.
He reminded the graduates that they will be successful if they put to good use what they learned at the Seychelles polytechnic and if they continue to learn from others in the workplace as well as through their personal efforts for professional and self-development.
Outstanding performers were also rewarded at Friday’s graduation ceremony and Ayiel Bonne was the winner of the President’s cup award. He received a laptop sponsored by President James Michel, cash prizes sponsored by Vice-President Joseph Belmont, a certificate, a cup and a return ticket to Singapore, sponsored by Air Seychelles.
Best performers in each course were also rewarded.
Marcia Niole received the secretarial award while the business studies and accounting award went to Emma Valentin.
Angelique Banane and Beryl Baker won the AAT shield and the visual arts award respectively.
