Grimshaw releases Another Grain of Sand

The front cover of the new bookWhile the first – A Grain of Sand, which came out in 1996 – was subtitled The Story of One Man and an Island, the new release is subtitled The Story of Two Men and an Island.

In this 240-page hardcover book he pays tribute to the late Rene Lafortune, with whom he transformed Moyenne from hostile bush into a national park.

Mr Grimshaw talks about the island’s geography and how it was when he acquired it 50 years ago for £10,000.

One chapter covers the topic of gris gris, with which the island has been associated, and he does not miss the opportunity to remind readers about the ghosts he supposedly shares his home with or the pirates’ treasure he claims to have spent years looking for.

The author talks about his past as an editor of East African newspapers and lists a number of memorable events on Moyenne, such as the visits by important people and how the tsunami hit the island in 2004.

Another Grain of Sand is now available from the author and Temoolje supermarket at R450 or €35.
