Reception tribute to senior citizens |13 November 2009
The President has highlighted the importance placed by his government on ensuring that the elderly can live in appropriate comfort and dignity.
“We will always take care of our elders, and we will not forget their contribution to the creation of the Seychellois nation and society,” he said.
“A society is judged on how it treats its senior citizens. We have always believed in ensuring the comfort and dignity of our senior citizens.”
Mr Michel called on all districts to reinforce their support programme for senior citizens and stay close to them, as well as to create ways for young people to learn from them and their experience, as they have much to share with the younger generation.
The reception for senior citizens was instituted by former President France Albert René to coincide with his birthday on November 16, as a mark of respect and appreciation for their contribution.
Mr René attended yesterday’s event and repeated his belief in the importance of the senior citizens’ contribution to Seychellois society.
