Judo: Roche Caïman judo tournament-Labrosse, Payet open category winners |25 November 2009
Despite being lighter than his opponent, seasoned judoka Labrosse, who is also the head of the Port Glaud club, surprised the heavier César to score with an ippon in the final of the male open category contested by seven fighters.
Jean-Paul William and Samuel King finished joint third after losing their semifinal encounters.
The women’s open category winner was Amanda Payet, 15, of the Roche Caïman club who beat clubmate Paddy King in the last fight, which counted as the final.
Competing for only the third time, Payet triumphed in her three other bouts against Sharon Lesperance, Shirina Dogley and Sheryl Souris, who was ranked third.
The organisers also gave out two individual prizes, to Yannick Sedgwick (best judoka in the junior male category) and Shaun King (fair play in the junior male division).
