Letter to the Editor-Henriette worthy winner of best footballer title |16 December 2009
In my personal point of view, Henriette deserves to win this award. He has been terrific – a very consistent and dedicated player who played a pivotal role in keeping his team in the top flight in difficult circumstances this season.
For me, Henriette is a player who can make it in any top team in the first division. Congratulations to Henriette, who is the first player from the Northern Dynamo camp to win the award!
However, I was very surprised to note that La Passe’s defender-cum-midfielder Geal Jessinghaus, who has been absent from football for almost two-thirds of the season, was awarded the runner-up trophy.
I would like to know what Jessinghaus has really done in a short space of time for him to win it?
This is a real farce! Surely there were far better local performers who should have been awarded the runner-up spot, for example St Michel’s pair of Nigel Freminot and Henny Dufresne or Trevor Poiret of St Louis Suns.
Again, I implore all those concerned in sports to take note that fair play must not only be shown and put into practice on the field but also at committee level.
Certainly, it has not been a fantastic footballing season – indeed one to forget. The new league format put in place (and I believe the Seychelles federation was the first to do so) has really spoiled the ambiance and atmosphere at Stad Linite. This has resulted in limited spectators at the games, which has obviously not helped to push our football to a new level.
The federation should bear in mind that we want to see drastic changes during next year’s campaign. Please make the league more exciting and attractive so that we can come down and enjoy some great matches.
To make this happen, the officials must also perform to expectations.
