Football-St Michel recruit defender Radafison from St Louis Suns

A no-nonsense defender, who can also play as a defensive midfielder, Radafison is the Jimmy Radafison (right) will play for St Michel this seasonsecond St Louis Suns player after striker Wilnes Brutus to join rivals St Michel.

Radafison joined St Louis Suns from Malagasy outfit Japan Actuals in 2008 and was a key figure in their defence alongside Seychelles international Jonathan Bibi, with whom he had a good understanding.

Strong in the air and in the tackle, Radafison was sidelined for the latter part of the 2009 season with a foot injury.
Former Seychelles striker Brutus, who joined St Louis Suns last year after his old team Red Star disbanded, will have his second spell with St Michel – a team he first joined in 2006 before quickly returning to Red Star.

Both Radafison and Brutus played a part in St Louis Suns wrestling the President’s Cup from St Michel’s grasp last year with a dramatic 3-1 penalty shootout victory (5-3 on aggregate score).

St Michel also lost the Barclays league division one title to La Passe in 2009, meaning they could not make a clean sweep of all the titles for a second consecutive season.

The St Michel team were weakened last year by the departure of experienced striker Philip Zialor, who joined La Digue-based Anse Reunion, and Malagasay Pascal Razakanantenaina, who is now playing professional football in France with the Racing Club de Lens.

According to the Seychelles Football Federation, the transfer window will stay open until February 20 – the day St Michel will meet La Passe in the eagerly awaited President’s Cup.

St Michel, St Louis Suns and La Passe will test their players for the new season when they take part in the four-team tournament, which started yesterday.
