Outstanding IGCSE results for International School |30 January 2010

The Cambridge IGCSE is taken in more than 2,000 schools in over 100 countries around the world and is internationally recognised as being a quality benchmark for secondary education.

Of the 46 Independent School students who sat for the examinations in 2009, 44 (95.6%) gained five or more grades between A* and C (called credit passes) and 15 (32.6%) scored at least five A*’s or A’s.

Highlights were Salma Farook scoring 10 A* grades (all her IGCSE subjects), while Milun Dhanjee gained eight A*’s and two A’s, Anisa Chang Lai Seng got seven A*’s and three A’s, followed by Ron Roucou with five A*’s and two A’s. The school congratulates the students on their outstanding performance.

All the 44 students qualified for the Cambridge International Certificate of Education (ICE) by passing seven or more IGCSE subjects in five different groups as follows:

At least two from group I – languages – and at least one from each of the remaining groups: humanities and social sciences; sciences; mathematics; creative, technical and vocational.

The lowest number of subject entries per student was eight, but most students sat for nine or more subjects. There were altogether 451 subject entries.

Of the 451 results, over two-thirds (68%) are graded between A* and  B, and close to 90% between A* and C.  The school said this was a remarkable achievement by the students.

The average percentage of students gaining at least five grade C’s or better in the previous nine years stands at 89%, with a range of 80% to 100% from year to year. At 95.6%, these S5 students have done much better than several previous groups.
There was, as usual, a first-class performance in languages, while very good grades in mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry and history were also gained

The school thanked its staff who, through their unstinting effort and dedication over the years, have ensured that the students performed to the very best of their abilities. It said it also appreciated the support and encouragement received from parents.
