Curio Road residents get new bus shelter |23 March 2010
The shelter was first asked for during the district consultative meetings held by President James Michel last year.
Sited on the upper part of Curio Road, it was built after the district administration appealed for help and the Lions Club agreed to carry out the project.
The shelter was officially handed over to the community in a in a recent ceremony attended by Minister for Community Development, Youth, Sports and Culture Vincent Meriton, Bel Air district administrator Keven Hoareau, chairman of the Parti Lepep’s Bel Air branch committee Wills Agricole, and project sponsor T. Ramesh Pillay.
Mr Hoareau and Mr Pillay formally opened the shelter, which shortly afterwards welcomed its first busload of people.
This is the fourth bus shelter built by the local Lions, and club president A.K. Singh said they are aiming to build at least one in each district.
Mr Pillay, who sponsored the project in honour of his father V.T. Pillay, said he is now planning to provide another shelter in his home district, Anse Royale, as well as sponsor social activities and other projects at district level.
Mr Hoareau said the work is ongoing to address other concerns of the community and he asked all bus passengers to use the shelter properly.
All those present – guests and residents – then joined together for refreshments.
