Volleyball: National League-No surprises as Racing Club drop set |28 April 2010

Racing Club looked like cruising to a 3-0 victory after winning the first two sets 25-16 and 25-19, but Anse Royale, promoted to the top flight at the expense of last year’s division two champions Outsiders who opted to stay in the bottom division, had other things on their mind.

With nothing to lose against one of the title favourites, Anse Royale upped their game to steal a set against Racing Club on a 25-22 score to force a fourth, which the 2008 Seychelles Volleyball Federation (SVF) champions won on a 25-16 score to put an end to the match 3-1.

In the women’s first division, second division winners Santa West learned that life in the top flight could be tough, losing to Curtain-raiser champions Friends on a 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-5) score.

In the men’s second division, Outsiders started the defence of their title on a high note with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-19) win over Juniors.

In two women’s bottom division matches, OSC Cometz beat Aros 3-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-12) and Roots Sisters defeated Island Girls 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 26-24).
