Cricket-Vijay ‘A’ win Eden Shield by 99 runs |15 May 2010

Vijay ‘A’ won the toss and chose to bat. Mohan and Ramesh came out to open the batting, and Mohan and Ramesh fell for 5 runs apiece. At this point 777 were ecstatic as they had made early inroads.

This left crafty veterans Kausahl and Arvind to steady the ship and they did more than that, Kaushal hitting a 4 off his second ball and Arvind a 6 off his fourth ball, gaining momentum from there.

Kaushal batted conservatively, turning the end over and leaving Arvind to score freely. Together they put on a partnership of 129 runs and took the score to 145 before Kaushal fell.

Arvind continued to score and managed 106 runs before being run out, a well-earned century. The rest of the team chipped in and Vijay ended on 221 for 7 wickets after 20 overs, this being an almost unassailable total.

The 777 team came out to bat and Sanjay and Shiva got off to a fairly good start but once more the cunningness of the veterans showed. Kaushal took care of the first 3 batsmen for 9 runs, Shiva went for 20 and Sanjay for 17. Arvind chipped in and took 3 for 26 and the wickets kept tumbling with Santosh the only batsman fighting back with a neat 24.

The team had no answer to the medium-paced spin of Arvind and the spin of Jeevan and Kaushal, and they were not able to score, forcing them to try big shots.

In the end, 777 only managed 122 runs all out and Kaushal took 5 wickets for 25 runs. Vijay had played exceptional attacking cricket, but winning the toss in this form of game is crucial. Vijay did and it helped them win the game by 99 runs.
