Karting-Team Crash take second win on the trot |24 June 2010
The event, which was twice as long as the first one held over a month ago, attracted eight teams and the same 32 drivers who took part previously.
With driver stints restricted to 10 minutes, change-overs proved as interesting as ever as some had perfected the move, while others had a hard time, and one driver needed help to get out of his kart.
With a large crowd in attendance, the race started at about 4pm and it ran its course until the karts were stopped after an hour to refuel and make minor adjustments.
This took about 15 minutes as some had to change tyres, while others just changed their tyre pressure.
At this time, Team Crash – comprising Peter Fred, Marc Delcy, Neil Renaud and Diane Alvis – were leading by a few laps from Team Monsters led by Liza Rene-Cosgrow, Marvin Sophie, Ivan Alvis and Debra Mellon.
Team Sparco with David Rene, Trishend Kambaran, Yannick Gabriel and Marie-Lucy Sullivan, and Team Drifters with Andy Denousse, Damien Bonnelame, Christian Port-Louis and Philip Verghese, all had the same number of laps.
But by the time the race ended, Team Crash were well in front of the rest with 210 laps. Team Drifters finished second with the same number of laps – 202 – as third placed Team Sparco.
Team Speedy led by Stephan Simon took fourth place, while Team Ezze led by Steve Vidot finished fifth.
Led by Liza Rene-Cosgrow, Team Monsters were sixth, Team Cruisers led by John Simon finished seventh, and Team Diablo led by Alexander Camille were last after having many problems in the first hour.
The race ended at dusk and all the drivers really enjoyed the event. It was expected to rain, which would have made it an even more interesting event, but instead the day turned out to be quite hot, leaving a few very exhausted drivers by the time of the prize-giving ceremony. Prizes were sponsored by Air Seychelles.
