Seychelles upbeat about first international carnival |15 September 2010
The Seychelles Tourism Board’s chief executive Alain St Ange said the three-day festivity from March 4-6 will be a time when the rest of the world will party in paradise.
He said several countries have already been invited to join us and to bring their music, traditional clothes and food to our shores.
The International Carnival of Victoria will not only be filled with colourful floats, but Seychellois and tourists alike will be able to have fun and enjoy themselves in various activities to be advertised soon, he added.
People from Praslin and La Digue will also take part and, if possible, an ox cart will stroll through town for the first time in ages.
Mr St Ange said Seychelles is a country with many cultures and peoples – which makes the melting pot of cultures a fitting theme that reflects our origins.
Such a big international event shows that Seychelles is slowly taking a leading role in tourism, he added.
“We have taken this great initiative and we want this carnival to be professional,” he said.
Mr St Ange said the government, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is giving all its support, and soon posters will be seen around Victoria to hype up the event.
Many dignitaries have confirmed they will not miss our carnival, and the international media are eager to come and show it to the rest of the world, he said.
