Women’s football-Perfect season for La Digue Veuve

La Digue players celebrate a perfect 2010 season

Last Saturday at Stad Linite, La Digue Veuve turned in another great performance to come from two goals down to win the Land Marine Cup with a 5-2 victory.

After former champions Olympia Coast got two quick goals from Elva Gamatis (8th minute) and Alda Gamatis (10th minute), former player of the year Natacha Bibi went on the rampage with four goals.

The former middle-distance runner reduced the arrears in the 11th minute and pulled La Digue Veuve level at 2-2 on 23 minutes.

Jossyna Ladouce gave the La Digue team the lead after 53 minutes of play before Bibi scored two more goals in the 67th and 71st minutes to close the score at 5-2 and complete a treble in a fantastic season.

La Digue Veuve started the year with a 1-0 win against Lioness in the Federation Cup. As expected, Bibi was the scorer of the game’s only goal.

Helped in training by La Passe coach Marius Fanchette, La Digue Veuve also won a first Barclays league title with a total of 22 points after seven wins, a draw and a loss by walkover in the three-round four-team championship.

Lioness were once again the runners-up.

“It hasn’t been an easy season but we came out to play hard each time we went on to the pitch,” Bibi told Sports Nation.

Scorer of 30 goals this year – one in the Federation Cup, 24 in the league and five in the Land Marine Cup – Bibi, 26, added that “football is all about winning, and we play to win”.
