Home Affairs moves closer to public

Members of the public learning more about the services offered by the Immigration Division during the open day yesterday

The open day held in the foyer of Independence House aimed to bring these services closer to the public and to showcase the work being done by staff in the three divisions, which come under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Environment and Transport.

Principal secretary for home affairs Marie-Ange Hoareau said there was a need to host such an exhibition as it gave people the chance to ask questions and seek information.

Among the exhibits were Seychelles’ first passports and national identity cards, among other records and documents.

The divisions also displayed their mission statements, and people viewing the exhibits were briefed by staff on the roles and functions of their sections.

Application forms were also available for those who were interested in joining the workforce in any of the divisions.

Through the exhibition, people could also learn more about the procedure that has to be followed to get a work permit, a national identity card and a passport.

And those visiting the Civil Status Division’s display were able to get more information on the declaration of births and marriages.

Another section that showcased its work was border control, and there was an information desk set up to allow the public to consult staff on any matter relating to the three divisions.

Staff of the Prisons Division showed the work being done on Coetivy and at Montagne Posée prison, including the rehabilitation process to help prisoners become better citizens once they have been released.
