Care rewards club members and stresses safe choices |29 November 2010
Sarah Zarqani Rene, the chairperson of Care (Campaign for Resilience and Education against substance abuse), reminded the young people of the need to be prepared in life by knowing what their goals are and how to prepare for the future.
She gave the example of somebody being offered a trip and, without being prepared, packing bikinis and flip-flops, not knowing the North Pole was the destination.
Mrs Zarqani Rene also told the youth to focus on the present as “every minute that we make a choice is the only reality we are living”.
Care director Robert Ah Weng gave a presentation to the S5 leavers on what resilience is and how to build it.
The Care Club members were rewarded with an inspiring poem printed in the form of a certificate to use as reminder, and the audience were entertained by songs, poems and presentations.
The ceremony was also attended by members of Care’s executive committee and teachers who help run the clubs at school level.
As part of continuing Care activities, a special spiritual event followed by performances and educational presentations on youth themes is being organised at St Joseph’s Church, Grand Anse Praslin, on Sunday morning.
Care Club members from Praslin and Mahe will enliven the event, whose theme is Children of God, wake up and walk in God’s footsteps.
