8th Indian Ocean Island Games-Local sponsors make donations |15 February 2011
This sum was handed over to the organisers in a short ceremony at the IOIG secretariat at Oceangate House yesterday afternoon and accepted by Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister Vincent Meriton.
Those who have contributed are Island Time Car Hire (R10,000), St Francis Football Club (R1,500), Senpa (R10,000), Villa de Mer (R10,000), PTA Bel Eau Primary School (R2,500), Bel Ombre Primary School (R150), L’Habitation Cerf Island and Streamline Charters (R10,000) and Unity Relay competitors (R3,707.50).
Their representatives were given a certificate and a thank-you letter from the minister.
Also present at the ceremony were Youth and Sports principal secretary Denis Rose, Games Commissioner Eric Arnephie and A. J. Shah of the fund-raising committee.
Mr Meriton thanked all the contributors and told them every single cent counts towards achieving the R42 million needed to host the Games from August 5-14.
“Thank you all for your contributions. We really appreciate it,” he said.
“You are all contributing in your own way towards the success of the Games. We look forward to receiving more sponsorship in the near future.”
