First group of Ile Perseverance tenants get house keys

The Ile Perseverance housing estate will welcome its first group of tenants this week

Keys to 153 units were available for picking up yesterday at the HFC’s office on the island after the tenants had signed the paperwork for either their house purchase or tenancy agreement.

The HFC’s general manager for estate management and sales, Timothe Sinon, said those who wish to move in immediately can do so, although utilities such as water and electricity will take several days to be fully operational.

“We are also advising people not to move in with any stuff such as old furniture that they might want to get rid of soon after they have moved or settled in,” he said.

“We would have liked everyone to sign house purchase agreements, which would have seenthem eventually – and sooner rather than later – owning their house, but since not everyone was able to do so we had them sign a tenancy agreement instead, which is a rental agreement for now.”

Other services like buses are already in place – to and from town as often as every half an hour.

The new tenants had a meeting with various government bodies last Saturday at Plaisance community centre. They learned about the different types of house available, the price of each kind of unit and repayment details.

Minister for Community Development Vincent Meriton, who was also present on Saturday, congratulated everyone for taking on such an investment and asked the future tenants to bring good values to their community.

“We ask that you respect the obligations that come with this village, such as its rules and laws, and moreover that you make it a place that it is known for its good assets,” he said.

The village’s administration team were then introduced to those present by district administrator Georgie Nicette.
