This augurs well for the Seychelles Judo Federation as the country will host the 8th Indian Ocean Island Games from August 5-14.

Of the 15 who received certificates on Monday afternoon at the Sports Training Centre, eight qualified as referees and the remaining seven as officials.

The eight referees are Mervin Joubert, David Antoine, Stephen Joubert, André César, Terry Mothé, Radhanand Mudhoo, Ravi Valmont and Francis Labrosse, while Lisa Lesperance, Tahirie Nicholas, Sandra Mathiot, Pema Cherry, Myrsia Sifflore, Jenna Finesse and Vanessa Narty are the seven officials.

An expert lecturer in Africa, Jean-Claude Cameroun, ran the course and gave out the certificates.

A fourth dan black belt holder, Cameroun represented Cameroon in a number of international competitions, among them the African Judo Championship – winning the silver medal in the 66kg category in 2000 and the bronze in the lighter 60kg division in 2002 and 2004.

Cameroun, who has fought a number of times against Seychellois Francis Labrosse, is expected to run for the post of referees’ director on the African Judo Federation next year after missing out by three votes three years ago.

Holder of dual Cameroonian-French nationality, Cameroun was the 2006 and 2007 veteran world champion.
