Football-Damoo officiates in Chan final |05 March 2011
Seychellois Jason Damoo was the first assistant referee in the Chan final between Tunisia and Angola, played last Friday at the Al-Merreikh Stadium in Omdurman in Sudan. Tunisia beat Angola 3-0.
Billed as tournament favourites, Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles beat Angola’s Palancas Negras 3-0 thanks to second half strikes from Mejdi Traoui, Dhaouiadi Zouhaier and Ousama Darragi to win the second Chan designed exclusively for locally-based footballers.
“It was an easy final to officiate as Tunisia dominated proceedings,” Damoo told Sports Nation.
“Overall, I had a great tournament, officiating in six games including the opener and the final. I hope to get some more call-ups, and in the meantime I have to work on keeping my fitness level very high.”
Referee Eddie Maillet also took part in the tournament, taking charge of five matches – among those a quarterfinal encounter between Cameroon and Angola and the third place play-off game won by hosts Sudan on a 1-0 score against Algeria.
Seychelles took part in the qualifiers of the Chan, eliminating Namibia 2-1 in the first round before being bundled out of the competition on a 2-6 aggregate score by Zimbabwe after losing the home leg 2-4 at the Stad Linite on May 22 and the away leg 0-2 on June 6 at the Rufaro Stadium.
