Crustacea and Minor Phyla of the Seychelles Islands |28 March 2011
Crustacea and Minor Phyla of the Seychelles Islands covers land and freshwater crustaceans (crabs, crayfish, shrimps and woodlice) and several different groups of worms: nematode round worms, nemertine ribbon worms, platyhelminth flatworms, annelidas (leeches and earthworms) as well as wheel-animals (Rotifera) and water bears (Tardigrada).
The most familiar animals in this book will be the crabs, crayfish and shrimps (although it does not include marine species), the other groups being obscure and often microscopic. The book covers 237 species and represents the most detailed research on many of these animals ever carried out in Seychelles.
As with previous volumes in the series, this book is a collaboration by experts from several countries, in this case Australia, France, Hungary, Italy, Seychelles, the UK and USA.
The fauna monographs are a scientific project of the Nature Protection Trust of Seychelles, aimed at providing detailed data on all the animals of Seychelles. When the series is completed at the end of this year, Seychelles will have the best-known biodiversity of any country in the world.
All volumes in this series are available from Antigone bookshops.
