Save Our Seas donates books on amazing marine life

The books that were handed over to the National Library

Many of these books have been handed over to the Seychelles National Library to be made available to everyone.

Members of the public are invited to come down to the library and get lost in the many amazing pages of different shark species in the informative Collins Shark Field Guide.

This is a book that give an extensive background to the life-cycle, anatomy and threats to sharks, while also giving identification information on all the 350-plus shark species found around the world.

Similarly, the World Atlas of Marine Fishes is a stunning reference book giving the reader pictures and information on all known fish species from the teeny tiny, colourful or camouflaged to the weird and wonderful.

Younger library visitors can read about FeeBee the Turtle's Incredible Journey, where a brave little turtle, against all the odds, survives many threats until she returns to the beach where she hatched out 25 years earlier.

Children will also have fun learning their alphabet and the many wonders of our beautiful oceans through easy-to-read rhymes in Alphabet of the Seas.

These books aim to promote an appreciation of one of the most awe-inspiring yet threatened ecosystems on earth. This is especially highlighted in All the Way to the Ocean, an uplifting story about two friends who discover what happens when you drop litter, the journey it takes as it gets washed down drains, where it ends up and the consequences it may have along the way.

It teaches both young and adult readers a timeless life lesson – if we all play our part, a cleaner, safer environment is indeed within our reach.

Encouraging awareness, protection, preservation and conservation of the global marine environment through research and education is at the heart of the SOSF’s mission.

Inspiring people, especially children, to fall in love with the sea by providing informative and educational material will help in better understanding the ocean world, and the many challenges that affect its delicate ecosystems.
