Boxing: Zone four Senior Championships-Jean and Estrale knock out opponents in first round

Jean and Estrale won their first bout by knockout

Jean, who fights in the 75kg category, took the light out of an opponent from Lesotho in the first round, while Estrale (60kg) defeated Amisse Gabriel of Mozambique. The latter failed to continue after his second standing count of eight.

The competition is being used as a qualifier for the African Senior Championships in Cameroon later this month and the All-Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique in September.

On day one – Monday – Keddy Agnes, 17, won his first fight on points against Mauritian Rodney Prosper.
Competing in the 56kg category, Andrique Allisop bowed out to experienced Mauritian fighter Bruno Julie who won Mauritius’ first and only Olympic Games medal – a bronze – in Beijing, China, in 2008.

Meanwhile, two other Seychellois fighters – Dave César (52kg) and Alvin Gabriel (69kg) – have been disqualified for being overweight during Monday’s medical examination and weigh-in session.

The other two local boxers taking part in the championship are Kitson Julie (64kg) and Ronny Legras (91kg).
