Karting-New Honda-powered engines for improved driving |15 June 2011
The three engines – Honda GX160 and Honda GX200 – have been sponsored by the Development Bank of Seychelles, represented by Jean Preira), John Simon, Excel Motors, who was not represented on the day.
The presentation ceremony was held on Saturday before the start of the fourth round of races in the Novice/Cadet and Junior classes.
Present were young drivers, some parents, committee members and invitees.
SKA chairperson Liza Rene-Cosgrow thanked DBS, John Simon and Excel Motors for answering the association’s call for help and said the contribution is very valuable.
"We are a small association and we are happy to see that we have support from organisations and small businesses,” said Rene-Cosgrow.
“Without continued support like this, the association would struggle in keeping karting accessible to all. On behalf of the association and its members, we would like to thank you for supporting the association," she added.
The SKA appealed to companies and organisation last year to raise funds to order new engines. The drive to get these engines was to improve the reliability and performance of the ailing ones that are still running. It was getting too expensive to maintain the karts, so the association decided to get brand new Honda-powered engines. These engines are used on association-owned karts and there is a need to make sure the young drivers who race in these karts continue to enjoy racing instead feeling disappointed as a result of technical problem.
